Fees on three typical school events
Total card and platform fees for one event, assuming single-ticket orders and that the buyer pays the fee, which is the default on both. On fees alone, Cheddar Up is cheaper per event in all three examples. The last column adds a year of Cheddar Up's Team plan, which its page lists as the plan with ticketing. That plan covers every event you run in the year, so it only favors Eventfold if you run few events.
| Event | Tickets | Cheddar Up fees | Cheddar Up fees + 1 year of Team plan | Eventfold fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring school play ($10) | 400 | $380 | $800 | $552 |
| PTA fundraiser dinner ($40) | 150 | $304 | $724 | $342 |
| Fall festival ($5) | 800 | $616 | $1,036 | $984 |
Cheddar Up's rates are from its pricing page as of October 14, 2026: 3.59% + $0.59 per card payment on the Pro and Team plans, and 3.95% + $0.95 on the free plan. Its page lists ticketing, events and waitlists on the Team plan, $35 a month billed annually ($420 a year). Eventfold has no subscription. A group running many ticketed events a year can come out cheaper on Cheddar Up. Try your own numbers in the fee calculator.
When Cheddar Up is the better fit
If your group collects dues, spirit-wear orders, forms and sign-ups, and needs cash and check payments tracked next to card payments in one place, Cheddar Up is built for that and Eventfold is not. Eventfold only sells tickets and registrations for events.
When Eventfold is the better fit
- Ticketed events without a subscription. No monthly plan to unlock ticketing or waitlists. You pay nothing until a buyer pays.
- Predictable fee. 75¢ per paid ticket plus card processing, shown to the buyer before they pay.
- Door check-in. QR check-in from a phone camera, family passes with names on the party roster, and access codes for members-only events.
Eventfold launched in October 2026, so it has a smaller audience and fewer integrations than Cheddar Up.
Common questions
Is Eventfold cheaper than Cheddar Up for a school event?
On fees alone, no: Cheddar Up's per-payment fees are lower in the examples above. Once you add the Team plan needed for ticketing, a group that runs a single event a year comes out ahead on Eventfold in all three examples. The Team plan covers every event in the year, so the more events you run, the more that cost is spread out, and a group running many does not come out ahead. If you also need Cheddar Up for dues and forms, you may keep it for that and use Eventfold only for the event.
Do we need a Stripe account?
Yes, for paid events. Eventfold pays out through Stripe. Free events don't need one.
